Overview
Heartburn, chest pain, and sour-tasting regurgitation are symptoms of gastric reflux disease, also known as GERD. This condition is caused by stomach acid constantly flowing back into the esophagus. Hoarseness, a persistent cough, and trouble swallowing might also result from it. Eating large meals, smoking, eating particular foods (such as fatty or spicy foods), and being overweight are all triggers. It’s critical to consult a doctor if symptoms worsen and GERD is not under control because untreated GERD can lead to more severe consequences.
What are the types of Gastric Reflux ?
Gastric reflux, also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), can take many different forms, each with its own unique set of symptoms. The primary categories are as follows:
Acid Reflux:The most typical kind, which causes heartburn and irritation as stomach acid refluxes back into the esophagus.
Laryngopharyngeal Reflux:Called also “silent reflux,” LPR is a condition in which stomach acid reaches the larynx or throat, resulting in symptoms such as persistent coughing, sore throat, and a lump-like feeling in the throat, frequently without the associated heartburn.
Non-Erosive Reflux Disease:a type of GERD in which patients have heartburn and other classic reflux symptoms but no esophageal damage is seen on endoscopy.
Barrett’s Esophagus:a chronic GERD problem that alters the lining of the stomach and raises the risk of esophageal cancer. The esophagus is generally damaged by chronic reflux before this problem is identified.
Reflux Esophagitis:prolonged exposure to stomach acid causes inflammation and damage to the esophagus, which frequently results in pain, trouble swallowing, and bleeding.

Regurgitation
Chest Pain
Difficulty Swallowing
Chronic Cough
Hoarseness or Sore Throat
Nausea
